Recently I came accross Extreme Visual Basic Forum (I am not a member, got there as result of some search) and they have 1 very nice and perhaps usefull feature: Info Tip pops up once mouse is over any thread caption and displays actual text from that thread. I would presume that some guys will say \"nah, it\'s too much\" but some of us may find it usefull especially when thread such \"Heeeeeeeeeeelp !!!\" is created.

Take a look at it, here is a link:

Hope I don\'t drive you tooo crazy with all my suggestions.
Regards, McG

We\'re switching to Invision, which does have that thread description feature...

The difference is, that I gather from EVB site, it pulls the text from the first post in the thread? Invision requires that you explicitly add a description to your thread. Something I wouldn\'t be too fussed on doing, myself. It\'s 3 lots of typing compared to the current 2. dunno

However, McG -] that idea requires that when a forum view is downloaded, the first post of every thread comes with it. That\'s alot of extra transfers, and I don\'t know that we\'d be too keen on that. The best idea really, is to encourage members not to use titles like \"Heeeeeeellllp!\" laugh1

Oh, I totally agree, RJ. And I also understand (from technical stand point of view) what\'s involved. It\'s one of those \"conviniences\" that we can live without - I saw it and decided to share that idea with all of you guys just to see what you have to say. I was pretty sure that many will like it, however (and I realise that as well) there is a technical aspect that may create some issue(s).

Nice ... RJ might just see if one of the team of hackers at invision can come up with something here Wink

Ewwww that\'s one ugly button board, what did they do like 5 seconds of skinning Roll Eyes

McG keep them coming mate, galah boards run on the idea the inmates run the asylum, ergo if everyone wants something we will find out if we can get it happening.

Cheers,
Jeff

Maybe something like:
if($description == "")
  $description = get_first_line_of_post();

Again, if people aren't using the description option, that's still alot of extra transfer and workload. This is an extra function that will be run *every* time you view a forum.

Can't you make Invision fill in the description with the first line of the first post itself, if the user left the description empty?

So when I don't enter a description, the board automatically inserts the first line of the post there?

Nah, I don't like that really either. The first 40 chars (or whatever) isn't always that much of a description.
