You know you could just write your stories about what happens during the shows you go to Another Tounge

Meh, I think they would be pretty boring to anyone else (probably boring to y'all too but I like that I can search GT for certain things, I should just keep a personal journal laugh1 ) for example, this past Friday:

I had two shows to attend, the first one is a band that one of my old bandmates plays in. The singer has moved out of state but he was in town for whatever reason so they scheduled a show. Fortunately they were early so there was no hard decision between that and the show I was already planning to attend. When I get there I run into a friend who had moved out of state to get clean. I greet her and say "I thought you moved away?" She tells me she is in town for a bit and that she messaged me earlier... I assume she's confusing me for someone else or something as I didn't get any messages. I run into her a bit later and show her that I didn't receive anything and she asks what my name is on facebook, I say "mike" and she says "ooooh! I messaged a 'micha'" and I assume she is just telling stories Another Tounge The next day I go to her FB page because I'm looking for a picture she took of us (and a mutual friend) and sure enough, she pasted to a dude with my last name's "wall" something like "hey bud, I'm in town, you going to [show]?" sofa

I stay out of the drama so I don't know if it was real or in her head, but she was pretty anxious about the scene at the first show so I told her I was ubering to the next show after the band and she was welcome to join. The bands at the second show were great, a lot of people I knew were there, but I drank enough to actually have a bit of a hangover the next day though...

As of this writing she still hasn't posted the picture Another Tounge

Friday was also what could/should have been the final inspection/permit for the deli. Unfortunately there were a few things the inspector didn't like so I spent most of my day Saturday working on that "to do" list. As I mentioned in my last post, I actually had pretty expensive (three at $65 each) tickets to a show that night... Since all three of us were going to be working on the deli, I threw them up on stubhub.com. I was thinking the show would sell out and I could make a profit, but as of that morning there were still tickets at the box office so I just asked for $50 a piece to be sure they sold (and they did). I really wasn't too bothered about going and since I was still with the people I was going to be with it wasn't like I got cancelled on. I did have a few people bugging me about the 2nd show I was planning to go to (if the 1st let out in time, which I don't think it did anyway) doh

I was scheduled to work on the turtle project Sunday but Sat night my sister reminded me of my niece's birthday so I had to cancel on him. While I was down there my mom mentioned the she hadn't been to Galveston since moving back, so I offered to give her a ride home and do a quick loop though there on the way. Drove past all my current projects there as well as some of my old apartments.

Not sure what this coming weekend has in store... I do have shows on my calendar and there is a show I would prefer not to miss Saturday, but not a big deal if I do.

Shows and working on people's projects Grin gives me an idea. If I can find you a descent show here, then maybe I can get you to come over and help me get our garden done Tongue

I personally hate working on building projects because I'm so bad at working with actual tools. My father-in-law comes by every so often and finds little projects that need done and does them.

I'm ok for important things, like I can install a dishwasher or something along those lines, but that's only because it's really needed, and my wife lets me do it so that I feel better (otherwise she's better with tools and building than I am).

Last weekend for us was preparation for our son's first communion. It's a big thing for Catholics. So Saturday I spent the day running around on my bicycle doing shopping. I ended up riding like 18 KM to get all the shopping done. Then started to food preparation, this lasted from Sunday morning to Sunday evening and a little on Monday morning. He had his communion and communion party on Monday (1st of May is always a day off if it falls on a weekday), and we had a lot of food to prepare. We made 3 different cakes, plus we made cinnamon buns, and cheese and bacon spirals, plus a bunch of different meats that all needed to go through the oven. We also had to go up to where we were holding the party to get it all laid out with tables, chairs, decorations. We'd already been bringing up things all that week, and also had to bring some of the stuff we had prepared. It was an amazing amount of work, and I was so exhausted. The boy had a good time though and was really happy. We're still eating left-overs Tongue

Work has been pretty busy as well. Since I've got experience working with messaging systems like Email I'm working on a monitoring system for automatically generated emails. For example if a customer sends out a order confirmation via email, this would normally be generated manually, and they may wish at some time to review that the message didn't bounce. I've created a bit of concept code that monitors the automatic email account via IMAP and checks for messages going out and if a bounce message comes back. That'll be done by this Friday.

heh, I'm sure you could hire someone cheaper but I bet there are some good punk clubs there. At least there was in the 90s. I'm not sure what town but there was a huge punk fest I wanted to go to back in 95 or 96. (I think there were riots that followed.)

Bad how? I'm sure a little practice would sort that out. Speaking of bad with tools though... So back in December I was drilling holes in tile for the deli, and then I switched to assembling tables, but I didn't switch my drill from "drill" to "stop when a certain amt of torque is reached" ... well the nut I was tightening stopped but my drill didn't, twisting my wrist in the process. It was sore for a few days but stopped, for some reason it's been hurting for about a month now. It pops when I move it certain ways, etc... I use a trackball (it's my right hand) so I don't think it's RSI related... so I made my first dr's appt in about 28 years yesterday... We'll see what they say Weds.

I got tired just reading that! The end result sounds completely worth it though.

Sounds like a blowout! I grew up in a predominately Hispanic neighborhood and I've always had close friends of Mexican decent, as a result I'm pretty familiar with Catholicism as far as events and celebrations go  Semi-related, it's Cinco de Mayo here (well, everywhere, but I doubt y'all celebrate it Another Tounge

I actually need something like that Another Tounge I used to have some checking and auto "re"sending, but that was like 10 years ago and changes to server OS & IIS over time made them no longer functional and they didn't get replaced. I think there are still some old systems logging to text files running (yup, scary) but they go unchecked. I do have one app that check a mailbox for emailed reports (xml files) and parses those.
I'm currently in the midst of writing a desktop app (how long has it been since I've done that...) to interact with a credit card "pin pad." So far so good.

Went to see some friends play last night, very early show, but of course afterward we hung out for a while before deciding to head to a bar... I was home just after midnight but that's still not enough sleep yawn Heading to Galveston straight after work too... the deli got it's final permit but there are still a few things to do. Some friends are playing down there tonight so may go see them, nothing too exciting happening up here tonight.

This morning when I woke up I checked my email and I see that my Uber ride home was $25 and the route (they send an image of the map) was kind of crazy... At first I was thinking my driver missed his exit and took a crazy detour but I was like "I didn't drink that much, I would have noticed if we took a strange route." After I was more awake I realized that after he dropped me off the "meter kept running." I emailed Uber and within two hours they gave me a $13 credit (I told them "I'm sure it's an honest mistake and I'm fine with paying for the part of the ride I was actually in the car for," I'm sure I could have complained and gotten a full credit if I wanted.)

Punks are still around. Usually when it gets warm you find them around some of the larger train stations, hanging out, asking for money. When I was a soldier we were warned best not to get mixed up with them. So I'm guessing the Punk scene is still going here, just maybe not mainstream.

My own father would say things like "You can't hammer a nail straight to save your life!" Unless we're talking about very small things electronics and such I'm pretty bad with my hands. Ask me to saw something, probably going to be crooked. Ask me to drill something, likely I'll burn up the drill bit. Best to keep me away from power tools.

You'll probably get a brace or something.

we have a bit of an agreement. She takes care of things that require tools, and I take care of things that are electronic or computery.

Yeah I think it turned out good. Vincent mentioned that he liked his mother's cheese cake better than the one we bought from a professional cake maker. She was happy.

Yep it's Europe's Labor Day. It's pretty much off work for everyone here in Europe. There are lots of speeches from labor unions, and left leaning political parties. Sometime there are riots from demonstrations. Rather quiet this year in Berlin which is nice.

No the Spanish aren't overly fond of Cinco de Mayo (since it is celebrating the Mexican revolution Wink ). Although some of us in the office did celebrate May the 4th.

The idea isn't so much a resending monitor. Just giving feed back to the users if their messages were sent out. SAP has a strange architecture, and does not connect directly to company email servers like you would expect. Simply an SMTP connection to a locally running Email server that performs the connection to the company email accounts. The problem with this is that SAP always sees that the message was delivered since the SMTP protocol is hop based, meaning once the other server accepts it, the sending server doesn't care anymore.

That's fair enough. The guy probably goofed, that happens from time-to-time. Always best to give the benefit of the doubt.

Picked up the car from the shop yesterday, and while it passed its inspection and all, I was getting strange indications on my dash display. For example, the service light was still active, which it should no longer be since the oil was changed. The other issue is the parking break. I keep getting an indication that the parking break isn't working correctly. Our car (Renault Grand Scenic) should automatically apply the parking break when I turn the car off, and then just before I drive off, it disengages the parking break. Apparently this is not happening correctly, and so I had to take it back to the shop for them to look at. I have an appointment for Thursday morning to drop the car off again so that their expert can look at it. Roll Eyes hopefully it's fixed before we go on vacation in June.

Yeah, there are many "sects" of punks and I have mixed feelings about the sects that beg. I understand the movement is about freedom and anarchy but "back in my day" we "fought" for our utopia by having shows with a cause, food drives, etc. Sitting around begging only perpetuates a negative image. (Especially when you find out the cunts are "trust fund babies" that are just rebelling...)

My own father would say things like "You can't hammer a nail straight to save your life!"
ugh, brought to mind a memory of my father saying something similar when I was pretty young. The reason this is so negative to me is that I rarely saw him, he never once tried to teach me anything, he did however let me know how bed I was at things quite often.
Simi-related, I was in a vehicle with my sister and mother earlier this week as we had just attended a [nursing] school event. My sister says something to the effect of "if dad we alive he probably wouldn't have been able to go" and they start discussing him (about how it was difficult to go places with him in tow in either a neutral or positive light) so I chime in with "can we all just agree the world is a better place without him?" (probably a little harsh (but true to me), I have no filter most of the time) and my mom responds with something like "why do you hate him so, is it because he was selfish?" since my point in saying that was to stop the discussion about him (he's finally gone, leave him that way) so I just left it at "come up with one positive trait and get back to me later." Anyway, this bit made me think I should make a list of little things like this for them... but honestly, it doesn't matter. It won't make me feel better and no point in making them feel bad.

Unless we're talking about very small things electronics and such I'm pretty bad with my hands. Ask me to saw something, probably going to be crooked. Ask me to drill something, likely I'll burn up the drill bit. Best to keep me away from power tools.
well I stand by practice makes perfect (but I hate "detail work" as well...)

You'll probably get a brace or something.
I spoke to the doctor a bit, he said he had a similar injury from a Jet-ski that he wasn't doing anything about laugh1 They took an x-ray which he called me about yesterday but I was unable to answer so he left a msg saying I could call back or someone would call me today. I called back but got voicemail so I hung up. No call yet today. He did say that the x-ray probably wouldn't show anything and that the next step would be an MRI. I did tell him that I bought a brace and wore it overnight but didn't see a difference so didn't do it again, he said I should probably keep at it so I have been every night since then (no noticeable difference). It doesn't really hurt, but doesn't feel normal. He did say it's probably not carpel tunnel as that hurts in a different area.

Yep it's Europe's Labor Day. It's pretty much off work for everyone here in Europe. There are lots of speeches from labor unions, and left leaning political parties. Sometime there are riots from demonstrations. Rather quiet this year in Berlin which is nice.
Ah cool, makes sense.

No the Spanish aren't overly fond of Cinco de Mayo (since it is celebrating the Mexican revolution Wink ). Although some of us in the office did celebrate May the 4th.
lol yeah. I received a few "happy 4th" texts myself but didn't really celebrate.

That's fair enough. The guy probably goofed, that happens from time-to-time. Always best to give the benefit of the doubt.
Yup, he was probably ready for bed and went home without thinking.

Picked up the car from the shop yesterday, and while it passed its inspection and all, I was getting strange indications on my dash display. For example, the service light was still active, which it should no longer be since the oil was changed.
There should be a trick to reset that. I took my Jeep to a non-dealer place (won't do that again) and they didn't reset it (my jeep chimes, no light, so I had to Bing "wtf is this chime") and I learned about some weird "turn key 3 times then depress the gas 6 times" series of actions to reset it.

The other issue is the parking break. I keep getting an indication that the parking break isn't working correctly. Our car (Renault Grand Scenic) should automatically apply the parking break when I turn the car off, and then just before I drive off, it disengages the parking break. yeah that's not cool at all. I would be pretty stressed thinking the break is dragging and causing a myriad of issues.

I didn't go out Friday night (worked on the deli, was too late & tired to go anywhere when I got home) but Saturday was a long day to make up for it
Started off at 3 pm, walked to a nearby record store to see a friend who has been playing around the globe play a "teaser" set. They were playing a full set later but I knew I wouldn't make it.
Grabbed some food on my walk home, ate and was off again. This time to the soccer stadium where some friends (who I just saw Thurs night) were playing, going on at 6'ish. When I get there the singer asks me to help him set up the merch tent (it was outdoors, on a blocked off street), after which he gives me a beer from "their" cooler. I later learn that it's his girlfriend's beer and she didn't bring that much so I borrow a friend's backpack and walk to a nearby convenience store (cos to hell with paying overpriced vendors) to buy a 12 pack. After their set, they had a stack of tickets for the game but I have absolutely no interest (plus there was a beer or two left) so I stayed out, finished the beer, and off to the next stop.
I'm already kind of drunk by this point :dizzy: and the venue is completely empty except for me and the staff... Apparently all the bands and friends were backstage laugh1 One of the bands dropped out last minute, the audience was bare (a lot of people said "I didn't know about it" after the fact), but otherwise was a good show. During one of my friend's bands I kept getting the attention of the sound guy, pointing at the bass, and giving the "turn it up" motion, well afterward everyone was all "I couldn't hear anything but bass!" sofa I can't be held completely responsible though, sound guy should know when not to listen to the drunk guy up front Another Tounge
After the show I rode with one of the bands to the next spot, a bar where a guy from one of the local bands works. Apparently a tequila rep had been in (maybe for the day before?) so he was giving us free margaritas... This bar features a "tower" that's closed to the public but he let us go up. After that I rode with the bassist who I had playing too loud (he and I go back 20+ years) to a late night fast food join before finally calling it a night

I've three potential targets tonight... Starting off at the tattoo shop where they are having an art show (I'll just be upstairs drinking beer most likely), then a couple friends are in a band playing around 11 (the last of three bands), after which there is a "50s & 60s dance party" where I may finish off the night... I can't get too crazy as we're supposed to be working with the turtles (not sure what's on the agenda) Sat in late morning.

I have two shows on the calendar for Sat but I think I'm just going to the one, especially since Sunday is mother's day and I have to make the drive town to texas city early that morning...

Sounds like a few punks I knew in the Army. Not sure how a punk made it through basic training, but they also looked down on the groups at the train stations here.

My dad actually blamed himself for my lack of hand working skills. He even apologized to my wife and told her that he really wanted me to do better than him so pushed me into learning skills that would get me a better job. So in that case he was right, I am in a better place then he was at my age.

well I stand by practice makes perfect (but I hate "detail work" as well...)
Probably true, but there would also need to be a desire, which I don't really have Wink

I spoke to the doctor a bit, he said he had a similar injury from a Jet-ski that he wasn't doing anything about laugh1 They took an x-ray which he called me about yesterday but I was unable to answer so he left a msg saying I could call back or someone would call me today. Could just be a sprain, or a simple inflammation. I've gotten them a couple of times too. It's all part of getting older Tongue

Apparently it was something like that. I brought it in, they called later in the morning to say it's working including the parking brake. Basically they had to reset the computer and it started working. I'm assuming that the problem was probably because the car had a dead battery.

I didn't go out Friday night (worked on the deli, was too late & tired to go anywhere when I got home) but Saturday was a long day to make up for it
:uhoh: you actually didn't go out one night. That's so rare yikes

doh you trolled them Grin

Margaritas are a dangerous mix for me. My ex-wife and I used to drink them until she found me passed out on the bathroom floor yelling about how everything was green! Apparently I passed out with my eyes open and the color of the bathroom carpet imprinted on my retina for a few minutes.

I'd be lucky to make it through one let alone 3.
I have two shows on the calendar for Sat but I think I'm just going to the one, especially since Sunday is mother's day and I have to make the drive town to texas city early that morning...

Mother's day is important.

We celebrated mother's day with our favorite burgers. We have the Spring Fest in town and that means our favorite burger place is running (they only run during the spring and autumn fests). Although on the way back from picking up the burgers I got rained on heavy with hail (ouch). Thankfully I had the food in my backpack which had a rain cover to protect it.

Sounds like a few punks I knew in the Army. Not sure how a punk made it through basic training, but they also looked down on the groups at the train stations here.
Not sure why any punks would be in the army to begin with Another Tounge although I knew at least one who went in to avoid a legal issue (not sure what, I didn't pry).

My dad actually blamed himself for my lack of hand working skills. He even apologized to my wife and told her that he really wanted me to do better than him so pushed me into learning skills that would get me a better job. So in that case he was right, I am in a better place then he was at my age.
Yeah, the difference is that mine didn't see anything wrong with his behavior. I do "appreciate" that I know what I know, and I do attribute that to him, but it was learned out of fear (mostly on my own) rather than taught. Another Tounge

Could just be a sprain, or a simple inflammation. I've gotten them a couple of times too. It's all part of getting older Tongue
Yeah, since I "work with my hands" (typing) for a living I figured I should listen to the pain and get it checked out. The fact that the doctor said he had a similar injury and he wasn't bothering to do anything reaffirmed my "I don't need to see a doctor for anything" stance Another Tounge I still haven't gotten the results of my x-ray (that he left a message about Thursday).

Apparently it was something like that. I brought it in, they called later in the morning to say it's working including the parking brake. Basically they had to reset the computer and it started working. I'm assuming that the problem was probably because the car had a dead battery.
Glad to hear it's sorted out now. thumb_yello

:uhoh: you actually didn't go out one night. That's so rare yikes
sofa

doh you trolled them Grin
Well it wasn't intentional laugh1 They must not be too bothered though, invited me to go with them to OK for a weekend punk fest they are playing in July.

Margaritas are a dangerous mix for me.
ugh same. I've sworn off tequila so many times, and margaritas just make the tequila go down so easy Another Tounge Last time I had one (and it was way more than one) was a time when I still lived in VA but was down here for the xmas party. The night before the party I went out with the boss & his wife, drank too many and was up puking all night doh was super queasy the entire next day and night too... I guess it kept me from drinking too much at the party as I usually do laugh1

lol I bet that was freaky.

I didn't go to all three, went back to the first place after the second. I took a case of beer to the tattoo shop around 8, hopped over to a venue to see some friends play around 11, then back to the tattoo shop around midnight (and home just before 4am) beerchug

Even though I drank "too much" Saturday night, I still made it to church Sunday morning. It was just my mother and I (in my family) as one sister wasn't feeling well and I don't know where the other was. Afterwards I took her to lunch at a place she likes but is out of town (about 1/3 way back up to Houston) so she rarely gets to go (I tried to take her there xmas eve, not thinking to check if they were open before making the drive doh ) then I just came home and worked on freelance (after a nap Another Tounge ) the rest of the evening.

I think that was the situation here as well. Surprisingly they could fit in to military life just fine. One guy found a loop hole in the hair cut regulation and basically had his sides shaved and then used gel to keep fairly long hair under his hat when in uniform.

Sounds like the doctor doesn't think it's a big deal. More along the lines of "Take 2 aspirin and call me if it doesn't stop."

Tequila is a dangerous drink, thankfully I'm not entirely like my dad in this case. Dad would get real aggressive when he drank tequila, more than once he ended up in the drunk tank, usually for wiping someone across the bar. One of the reasons he stopped drinking it altogether. I just get stupid and pass out Another Tounge

lol I bet that was freaky.

Yeah, I remember freaking out at first. She got me to quiet down and into bed. I remember once where she had to drag me across the house (she was much shorter than I and I was in the Army and buffed a bit more so not light). I came to as she was pulling on my arm and I was halfway down the hall. I still don't know where I started from. I very seldom drink margaritas now, and if I do I have only one under the watchful eye of my current wife, she makes sure I don't get stupid Grin

Sounds like a quiet end to the weekend.

So this week, the boss came in and threw our sprint into chaos. He got a line on a new customer and needs demo stuff by the end of the month. So we're scrambling to get it all done but that means we are leaving a lot in this current sprint open. Not a real big deal, but kind of annoying, and we need to get more customers.

Looking forward to vacation in two weeks. After 6 months without vacation I'm starting to feel the strain, so a couple of weeks off should set me right again. We're going to the mountains with the boys. We have hiking boots and all! We've rented a small apartment there and that will be the starting point for a bit of hiking, and adventuring. The boys are also pretty excited, because they were given the chance to choose our vacation this year. They unanimously voted for mountains rather than going to the ocean. "We've been to Denmark so much we want to go to the mountains." was their comment, sometimes it's scary how they can be so independent from one another, but then turn around and speak like a hive mind.

Picked up a new (to me anyways) bicycle. My old bike was slowly falling apart, and I wanted something a little better. My wife found it on ebay. They guy selling it lived only down the road so I could walk to his house in 16 minutes. I took a look a the bike and bought it, then rode it all the way home (22km or just over 13.5 miles) my legs were like jell-o after the ride, but it went well. I may do that once a month, ride the bike to the office and back. It takes about 1.5 hours for me to ride that distance one way. Thankfully I had my mobile to make sure I was on the right road.

I also got my new smartphone. I've got a Samsung Galaxy J3, which is fine for me. It's a bit bigger than my old S3 Mini but it'll do. Now if Samsung would stop installing bloatware everything would be great.

Yeah, I think it's all better now too. I think I just got worried that if I didn't have it looked at that it could keep me from working in the future.

Sweet! Are you planning on going?
Yup! I need to remember to ask if I should buy a ticket or if I'm getting in as part of the crew (aka, stuck in the merch booth). Also need to check on lodging, might be a little too old to crash on the floor somewhere laugh1 (they're also playing a fest in new orliens two weeks after that, I intend to go).

I think it's been done Another Tounge The funny thing about that night was my friend let two mutual friends tattoo each other. Just simple little things (that turned out ugly, but to be honest, one of my favs is the first one that my tattooer friend ever did (both on me and ever) and it's a crappy little daisy that I drew sofa A third friend of the two guys got a small taco from the shop apprentice and the two friends colored parts of it.

Sounds like my daily routine. I work on something that's urgent for a few days, then when I'm 80% done I get switched to something else urgent Another Tounge

I love my windows phone but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it... I'm pretty fine with the lack of apps, but in the past 3 or 4 years there has only been 1 phone come out better than what I have and I would have to switch carriers to do that...

last week was pretty busy...
There was a show down in galveston Tuesday but the band (from Japan) was also playing in houston Wednesday so I was having a hard time deciding... but then a friend called me saying he was going to be at the tattoo shop so I hung out there for a bit... (longer than I should have for a work night.)

Wednesday morning a friend texted me that he had a ticket for another show (and iconic punk band that I'm not really a fan of (The Damned), at a venue I don't like) but it kinda was something that I would have regretted missing I think. Wound up drinking too much and staying out too late. doh

I think I wound up staying in Thursday night, but I took off Friday and went down to Galveston to help with the finishing touches on the Deli. Went to a show Friday night but got up fairly early as I needed to take some pies & supplies to the Deli before their grand opening yay

I stayed at the deli from open to close, my mom came by, one of my sisters was supposed to come by, and only one of the handful of friends I texted came by. That night there were no decent shows so I just went to a metal show at one of my favorite venues. Earlier in the week my 2nd ex wife emailed me about a mutual friend of ours being back in town (I didn't know he moved) and that he was DJing at the new wave club and I should meet her there... I was thinking "nope, I'm fine being friends at a distance, emails every so often, but I draw the line at hanging out." I didn't reply to the email and so earlier that day (still on Saturday) she texted (first time in our lives oddly, we split before texting was a thing outside of IT and teens) and sounded pretty bummed that I was turning her down. I was still sticking to my guns though. Well... What I thought was the first band at the metal show was actually the 3rd (and pretty bad) but the headliners were pretty good... ended fairly early though and I wasn't ready to go home yet... so I went to the new wave club laugh1 I figured it wouldn't be weird because there would be other people I knew as well, but it turns out the DJ never showed (I ran into him later, he thinks someone slipped something in his drink as he blacked out) and there was hardly anyone there... It wasn't bad though, her cousin was with her so wasn't like we were alone.

Sunday I worked on the turtle project a bit and that evening there was a show of old school all stars from the houston scene (I didn't drink at all since I had been so much previously Another Tounge ).

Monday I was back at it though... the band "X" was playing... I was on the fence about going, and was texting a friend who was also on the fence, but i said "I feel like I'll regret it if I don't" and he was like "you're right, that settles it." I didn't drink too much, the show ended at a decent hour, but when I was calling my Uber the app was acting goofy and dude was all "I'll give you a ride but I want to stop off for a beer on teh way" so we went to this one place I like cos they have popcorn sofa and had a couple.

This (3 day) weekend has nothing decent on the calendar Sad I'm almost toying with the idea of taking it easy though nono

Hope you had a nice three day weekend.

The end of May is coming fast, and that means the end of my probationary period with the company. yay I'm bringing cookies and cake to celebrate. Then on Saturday morning we leave on vacation as I mentioned above.

On Sunday we've had a discussion about smartphone usage with our boys, as two of them are getting smartphones (used with a pre-paid card). The biggest worry is that they will spend too much time playing with the phones and not enough time doing other things, so we had to set down some rules. One rule is that at bed time the smartphone has to be in the living room or kitchen and absolutely not in their rooms. Eldest boy tried to sneak his up in his school bag, but his mother caught him. His fault really, when asked where his phone was he said "I don't know." which automatically raised our antenna, he just got the new toy two days ago and now he says he doesn't know where it is hmm pretty sure that's not true Wink.

Apparently my boss and I are in some sort of silly t-shirt competition. Since it has started to get warm I've been wearing more geek t-shirts to the office (as long as we don't have customers). My t-shirts were gathering some attention by my co-workers. Then we noticed the boss started wearing some too, which got more comments. Yesterday I didn't wear a t-shirt but he did and he made some comment that I'm not going to win this competition. No idea where this came from but "Challenge Accepted". He's not in today, so normal t-shirt today, tomorrow I wear my "Sniper, you can run but you'll only die tired." t-shirt. My wife is also going to buy me some new ones Evil

Hello there guys bye1 Sorry I have been away. This past few months have been real piece of work that I haven't had to do something like that in past 8-9 years. Looks like this whole year will be like this. I will try to come around often. taz

Wrack!!  yikes

Glad to see you're still alive! Is this a large work project that has you so busy?

I'll take a look at your ideas. My wife is already buying me one that says "99 bugs in the code, 99 bugs!, take one down patch it around 101 bugs in the code."

Yeah, I am alive and well. Thank you.

Both the work and personal. My wife keeps telling me, after this thing no more stuff that adds more responsibility and I nod and then take it up due to, well me being me fish

Yeah, I hate even sitting on the floor, not sure how well I would sleep on one.
I think for me it's more of a privacy thing. Maybe being the guy that would draw on the person that passed out first at a party has given me trust issues sofa

A tattoo of a little daisy?!? Well there goes your tough guy cred Wink
heh, I'm sure I've posted an image of it before.

http://stinkbugonline.com/me/daisies.jpg

Terrible picture, you can't really tell that the center of the flowers are a 1 & 3 pool ball. One of my good friends from high school was a tattooer, the guy that has recently done my chest (also ex-bandmate and often referred to here as turtle guy) was interested in tattooing, we were helping the first guy move late one night. First guy says "mike, lets do a big '8 ball' on you so I can show him how it works." I replied "duck that, man! Hold on," and grabbed a pen, drew a silly little daisy on the side of one of the moving boxes, "you can each do one of these!" and the rest was history. The color (and pool balls was added later).

All part of being a software developer.
I guess it makes me feel better to know that happens elsewhere too Another Tounge

My wife has a Windows phone and she's pretty happy with it. It's not such a big deal to switch carriers here.
For the most part, I love it. I like the MS "ecosystem," I like that I can take a picture with my phone and w/o any work on my part the file is already on my home desktop, work desktop, HTPC, and laptop, I like that I can make a note on my desktop and its on my phone (same with calendars although that seems to take some time to update...). However, I feel like I am missing out on things that just aren't available. Just last night a friend and I called our Ubers at the same time and his Uber app looked so much better... but the absolute worst part is my battery life... (especially since I HAVE to have my phone to get home Another Tounge )

The deli sounds like it's going well.
As far as I know it is. My mom has been there like three times now, everyone seems to love it. (I've only been once since it's opened Another Tounge )

Hope you had a nice three day weekend.
meh... as I mentioned in my last post, I didn't have anything on the calendar... Friday night I wound up going to my "ain't poop to do, I'll just see what's going on over here" venue... left after the first band Another Tounge Saturday I went to a show where I knew and like (but not a favorite or anything) one of the bands, they were playing 3rd out of 4... all the other bands were terrible and I left on the 4th band's first song.
Sunday however, the previous weekend I had told turtle guy I would help not remembering it was a holiday and that I had a daytime show on my calendar... Well, we got done at a decent hour (redesigned teh filtration system for teh 3rd or 4th time, I think we finally got it right) and I made it to the venue by 5:30 (event page said thing started at 2). A band I really like was playing, so I was worried I was going to miss them but there was still 1 band before them so that was awesome! On top of that, another band I really like was headlining, but it was not announced because the promoter wanted to see what draw the other bands had on their own. The show ended at 8 though and there was NOTHING else going on in town... so a friend of mine had a cooler of beers in his trunk and we drove to a dive bar sitting on their patio drinking those Another Tounge

Another meh thing about this weekend... So around the time galahtech was born, I had an ex-bandmate living on my couch. To date, I've known the guy for 22 years and during that time we've either been inseparable, or completely not talking. Some people in teh scene, when ever they would see me, would ask where he was and vice versa. Well... Friday morning I received word that he had a stroke... He was very well known in the scene, having played in many bands as well as being in one of the most popular local band for over 20 years so the entire scene was pretty bummed. Some were hopeful, but I've seen enough strokes to know how it goes... He passed Monday evening. I wound up having to turn my ringer off that night because people kept texting to check on me. Another Tounge No word yet on when the memorial service will be and there is going to be a benefit show in Aug that I imagine will be huge. One of his bands was scheduled for weekend after next (and the other bands are all friends too), they posted that they are still going to play because he would call them pussies if they didn't (and he totally would), I have a feeling it's going to be super emotional, but maybe feelings will subside a bit int he next 8 days.

The end of May is coming fast, and that means the end of my probationary period with the company. yay I'm bringing cookies and cake to celebrate. Then on Saturday morning we leave on vacation as I mentioned above.
Awesome, congrats yay

On Sunday we've had a discussion about smartphone usage with our boys, as two of them are getting smartphones (used with a pre-paid card). The biggest worry is that they will spend too much time playing with the phones and not enough time doing other things, so we had to set down some rules. One rule is that at bed time the smartphone has to be in the living room or kitchen and absolutely not in their rooms. Eldest boy tried to sneak his up in his school bag, but his mother caught him. His fault really, when asked where his phone was he said "I don't know." which automatically raised our antenna, he just got the new toy two days ago and now he says he doesn't know where it is hmm pretty sure that's not true Wink.
heh, parenting is so weird, so many things I don't have to think about. (For example, one time I accidentally go the "explicit" version of a CD for my Nephew's xmas present... my sister made me exchange it laugh1 )

My wife is also going to buy me some new ones Evil
rofl_yello Silly shirts are silly. My thing about them is that once you've worn/seen them once, it's done Another Tounge

Hello there guys bye1 Sorry I have been away. This past few months have been real piece of work that I haven't had to do something like that in past 8-9 years. Looks like this whole year will be like this. I will try to come around often. taz
Howdy stranger! Hopefully the rest of your year isn't bad and that something positive comes out of all this work.

Hope life is going well for you mate. beerchug
So far so good, working & going to shows beerchug

Yeah, I am alive and well. Thank you.

Both the work and personal. My wife keeps telling me, after this thing no more stuff that adds more responsibility and I nod and then take it up due to, well me being me fish
heh yup!

can y'all take a look at this and see if you have any ideas, or maybe able to help me rephrase the question (at this point I'm pretty lost on how it's going to work... seemed easy before I tried it) :

I think for me it's more of a privacy thing. Maybe being the guy that would draw on the person that passed out first at a party has given me trust issues sofa

Afraid of a little Karma Evil.

heh, I'm sure I've posted an image of it before.

I was just trying to cheese you a bit. Anyone who's willing to sit still and let someone run a bunch of needles across their skin are tough enough Wink

My wife also complains about battery life. Mostly she compares her smart phone to her old clap phone. Older phones held charge longer because they had less going on under the hood.

As far as I know it is. My mom has been there like three times now, everyone seems to love it. (I've only been once since it's opened Another Tounge )

I guess with your diet that kind of makes sense. It's also further away isn't it?

Sorry to hear about your friend. That's probably the thing I hate most about getting older. Hearing about friends that have died, and thinking "... but we're not that old!".

Funny enough, while we don't encourage bad language, we don't really shy away from it. I've been known to drop the F-bomb around my kids, my wife sometimes will take issue if I do it too much but usually it just slides through. We're more worried about habits that are worse on their social standing like not paying attention to others and focusing on things.

My first few months in the office were in the winter so I wore long sleeve button up shirts mostly. Then when I started noticing others wearing t-shirts I would wear one once in a while. They started getting noticed a little at a time so many people didn't register at first that I was wearing something silly. Now that it's early summer and hot, I'm wearing t-shirts every day. It gets noticed, and gives my wife something for gifts for birthdays, anniversaries etc.

Speaking of anniversaries my wife is awesome. Yesterday I showed her that Lego is comming out with a Saturn V set with exactly 1969 pieces for about 120 Euros. She suggested we could get it for our anniversary in July. Grin
