I'm in a situation where we need some kind of system so that we arn't saving over each others work. We tried the low tech "postit" method but it is hard to not open a file when you dont have the postit and whatnot... I know there has to be some way to do this.
At the moment they are .fla files (and I have a feeling that another department is about to have an issue with .doc files)

CVS. BitKeeper is free, too, I think.

But, admittedly, I don't know if either handle binary files well.

They all seem a bit difficult and I don't want to make a project out of the versioning system alone smile I think I found what will work in my case for now, since we both have zip drives we are only alowed to work on the file on the zip drives... no local copies allowed smile It makes things a little slower but so did rewriting half a day's work because of a bad move doh

Subversion.  It's pretty easy to set up and use, and does automatic merging of work done on the same file by two people.
