Oh yeah, Slaine, do you think you could you do a kind of a background thing in the same manner as the planets surface so\'s I can wrap it to the inside of the monster sphere which forms the background?

You\'re my hero! smile

That\'s a good idea. For one of the races, these \'traders\' could pretend to be their gods and give them the gift of spacetravel. They would probably be the last race to be persuaded to go to war against these traders as it would be such a system shock to them...

Cool as. That species would be full of religious nutcases to start off with, and the arrival of these traders would set the whole lot off. Especially if these traders had been laying the groundwork for it - nothing to say this game hadn\'t been planned for thousands of years... Wink

My thoughts exactly. Or, as it is, that the games haven\'t been done before with other galaxies smile

Something\'s still not clear :

where do we start off ? Already in space (easiest) or with cutscenes on the home planet ?

A starfield doesn\'t translate well to the inside of the sphere.

I\'ve already tried wrapping nebula4 to it and it just looked bollocks. There\'s the obvious problem of the distortion at the poles and the stars, although only tiny in the image were expanded to massive proportions.

When they did the backgrounds for homeworld that were all blurs and colours and stuff, I don\'t think they had much choice - it would all look pants otherwise.

I experimented with just drawing some curvy lines in different colours and mapping that the sphere and it looked ok. Or, it would if I had any tools to blur the lines - I only have paint...

I\'ll upload some of what I\'m working with...

The game itself will only be in space, but cutscenes of the planet are something we can work on later if needs be. smile

Eh? You mean the traders haven\'t actually done it on this scale before, but they may have played the game with a single planet...?
